What England Need In Their Final Pool Match

England's women are now into crunch time in their World Cup group.

Put simply, if England win against China then they guarantee progression to the Crossover stage of the competition.

England can no longer win the Pool, and the teams finishing second and third in our Pool B will face the teams in those positions in Pool C. As it stands those teams are Spain and Korea.

England play China at 3:30pm UK time on Thursday, before New Zealand face India at 6:30pm.

England will finish second in Pool B if we win and then India don't. Finishing second is arguably preferable as you then play the third-placed team from Pool C.

If England and India both win, then India win the group and New Zealand & England qualify level on points in second and third.

If England draw, they snatch third if India lose by three or more goals to New Zealand. If India lose by exactly two goals, the teams are level on points.

When two teams are tied on points, they are separated firstly by the result between the teams, then goal difference, then goals scored, then number of field goals and then finally a shootout between the two teams. After two games, England have scored one field goal and one penalty corner, while both of India's goals so far were from corners.

If England are beaten by China, they are sure to finish fourth in the group and go into the classification matches which determine 9th to 16th place.

Both of Thursday's games are live on BT Sport; England's game is on BT Sport 1 and then New Zealand v India on BT Sport 2.
