Notts Sport Boys Schools Championships Match Reports
The Notts Sport Boys Schools Championship finals began with the Under 14 Tier 2, Under 16 Tier 3 and Under 18 Tier 4 competitions at Nottingham Hockey Centre on Monday 20 March 2023 and continued until the final day at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis centre on Wednesday 26 April 2023.

Bromsgrove School 6 - 1 Bedford School
Bromsgrove Schools Isaac Bridge was the first to score in the game versus Bedford School from a penalty corner, but, Joshua Stewart was quick to respond levelling the score. Joseph Mcloughlin was next to score from a field goal taking Bromsgrove School into the second half 2-1 up.
The second half saw goals from Jack Warner (38’, 50’), Isaac Bridge (41’) and Thomas Nicholson (60’) making the final score Bromsgrove School 6 - 1 Bedford School and making Bromsgrove School 2023 U18 Tier 3 champions.

Altrincham Grammar 4 - 1 Magdalen College School
Altrincham Grammars Captain Ted Graves was first to score in the U18 Tier 2 Finals, but Magdalen College Schools Jimmy Ward quickly equalised.
In the 30th minute, Altrincham Grammars Oliver Hatton's penalty corner goal took them into the lead and up at halftime. The second half saw goals from Edward Lord and Angus Gilchrist meaning Altrincham Grammar were crowned 2023 U18 Tier 2 Champions.

Magdalen College School 1 - 11 Whitgift
Whitgift weren’t holding back in making sure they secured the U16 Tier 1 title. A whopping 11 goals were scored by 6 different players, but Magdalen College School Fraser Mackenzie ensured his team got onto the scoresheet.

Trent College 2 - 2 (3 - 0 SO) Caterham School
A goalless but action-filled first half for the two sides. The second saw William Lumbard score for Caterham School from a penalty corner and Josh Ford extended their lead in the 55th minute.
Trent College had 25 minutes left to score and Ben Moltgen got the first for his side in the 60th minute. Louis King followed suit and scored just 2 minutes later making the final score 2-2 and headed to a shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, Trent College had a clean sweep scoring their first 3 whilst Caterham School couldn’t get one past Trent College goalkeeper Samuel Allen meaning Trent College are the 2023 U16 Tier 2 Champions.

Tuesday 25 April saw an action-packed day of hockey with the U14 Boys battling out to see who would be crowned champions.
Whitgift and Reeds finished top of their pools meaning they would face each other in the finals whilst Yarm and Kings School Chester would compete for Bronze.
The Bronze Medal match was an even battle between the two sides but Kings School Chester’s, Eli Corbin managed to score in the 8th minute. Yarm School held off Kings School Chester and Ben Bardgett equalised meaning the match would go to a shoot-out.
Both teams scored their first two but missed the third, Kings School Chester scored their third but missed their fourth, Yarm School missed both meaning Kings School Chester would take home the bronze meals.
The Battle for Gold had crowds on the edge of their seats as both teams played competitive, end-to-end hockey. Neither team managed to score, and it went to a shoot-out. Whitgift were up first and scored, Reeds equalised, Whitgift missed meaning Reeds had an opportunity to pull ahead and did. Both sides missed the next two, but Whitgift scored their 5th leaving it all down to Reeds 5th attempt to secure the win. Tottman Casper did just that and helped his team take home Gold, the cup and be crowned 2023 champions.

Pool E - Aldenham School, Ashville College, Embley School & King Edwards School Stratford
Pool F – Cranbrook School, Saffron Walden County High School, Sedbergh & Truro and Penwith College
In pool E both Embley School and King Edwards School Stratford both finished on seven points but King Edwards School Stratford had a goal difference of seven meaning they would face Cranbrook School in the final after they finished top of Pool F.
In the 3rd/4th play-off Sedberghs Henry Sanders was the first to score but Draysey Kaden levelled the score just minutes later until Captain James Corrigan took Sedbergh back into the lead and victory over Embley School, leaving the final score two, one to Sedbergh.
In the final Eshan Sonecha took just three minutes to find the back of the net which was closely followed up by a second for King Edwards School Stratford when Ethan Wragg converted a penalty corner. The second half of the game saw no goals meaning King Edwards School Stratford finished on top with a two, nil win over Cranbrook School.

Pool C - Churcher's College, The Skinners School, Worksop College & Yarm School
Pool D – Eltham College, Haileybury, Katharine Lady Berkeley's School & Sedbergh
Yarm School took pool C by storm with three wins and a whopping 13 goal difference securing them a spot in the final. Eltham College finished top of pool D with two wins and a draw meaning they’d face Yarm School in the final.
The final was an evenly matched game with end-to-end hockey until Will Ferguson managed to break through the defence and beat Eltham College goalkeeper Hakeem Drammeh taking Yarm School into the lead at half time. Captain Max Mowbray secured their win with a 23rd minute field goal and sending his team home with a two, nil win and the trophy.

Pool A - Bohunt School & Sixth Form, Katharine Lady Berkeley's School, St George's College & Whitgift
Pool B - Chigwell School 3, Ilkley Grammar, King's Macclesfield & Princethorpe College
A full day of action for the U14 boys with a huge 50 goals being scored throughout the matches.
St George's College finished top of Pool A after successfully winning all 3 of their pool games with Chigwell School winning Pool B leading them to battle it out in the final.
Katharine Lady Berkeley's School and King's Macclesfield finished second in their pool and headed to the 3rd/4th playoff where Jack Bryson from Katharine Lady Berkeley's School wasn’t hanging around and scored the opening goal in the opening minute. His team weren’t far behind with another four from Isaac Edwards, Fergal Brewer and Henry Rendell, leaving no opportunities for King's Macclesfield to catch them ending the match five nil to Katharine Lady Berkeley's School.
In the final Louis Lloyd-Reynolds helped lead St George’s College to victory with a hat-trick with Alex Tovey securing a fourth and a four, nil win over Chigwell School.
