Hinch vows England will show intent again

Goalkeeper Maddie Hinch says that her England teammates will continue to show real intent as they prepare to face Korea in Sunday's crossover match in the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup.

England came through a pressurised final Pool game against China, and Izzy Petter's brave number one running was just one example of the team putting themselves in the firing line for the greater good.

Maddie said, "I felt that our intent made the difference. It's a mindset thing, we always have to put our bodies on the line. People running at corners were willing to get hit to get us into the next round.

"Getting through was an incredibly nice feeling, we were very disappointed not to beat New Zealand after playing so well.

"The China game was a case of recovering mentally, not getting too down, so to then go out there, take opportunities and defend the way the girls did was incredible.

"We were under pressure but getting to the crossover it's a big achievement for a group that is learning all the time."

England have not faced Korea since the 2018 world cup in London when they did battle again at the crossover phase; Sophie Bray and Lily Owsley on the scoresheet.

This time around Korea have came out of a group including Argentina, Spain and Canada, losing twice either side of a late 3-2 win against the Canadians.

Korea played all of their group games in Spain, whilst England have now travelled from Netherlands to Barcelona to play this and any other remaining matches.

Sunday's match takes place at 5pm UK time and is live on BT Sport 1 HD.

The winner of the game faces Argentina in a quarter-final on Wednesday.
