It was a thrilling start to the third day of Futures Cup as Pennine Pumas swept aside Mercia Lynx with a 5-1 victory.
It would only take five minutes for the Pumas to find a breakthrough goal, Rebecca Hennessy on hand to provide the finishing touch to take the lead.
That advantage would be doubled just a few minutes later as Holly Pears, who looked electric through the match, made it 2-0 with less than ten minutes on the clock.
Pears had a hattrick mid-way through the third quarter with two more impressive goals, the first coming from a penalty corner before hammering in her third of the day with a rocketing strike into the far corner of the goal just one minute later.
With a 4-0 advantage already to their name, the Pumas maintained their attacking intent and found a fifth through Lowri Huxley at the end of the third quarter.
Though a comeback was out of reach, Mercia Lynx continued to fight and were rewarded for their endeavour with a late consolation goal through Harriet Hargreaves.
The 5-1 result means that Pennine Pumas will battle for bronze on Saturday whilst Mercia Lynx will contest the 5th/6th place match.

It was another one-sided result in the opening round of fixtures of the day as Wessex Leopards took a 6-1 win over Caledonian Cougars.
Daman Bansal had a brilliant brace, the first from a penalty corner and the second an nice finish to conclude a flowing team move, within the first five minutes to give Wessex Leopards a strong early platform to build from.
Dan Hunt and Euan Jones also got on the scoresheet in the third quarter as the Leopards ruthlessly dismantled their opponents to lead 4-0 going into the half-time break.
Though Fraser Allan pulled one back for the Cougars after the interval, Oliver Lander replied later in that quarter to maintain the four-goal cushion.
Dylan Coleman ensured the spoils would go to the Leopards with a comprehensive victory, meaning the Cougars will go into the 5th/6th place match whilst Wessex will fight for bronze tomorrow.

Saxon Tigers emphatically booked their place in Saturday’s final with a whopping 8-1 win over Pennine Pumas.
Though the final score heavily favoured the Tigers, the first-half was a hard-fought and fairly even contest.
Amie Hunt and Anna Cogdell were both on target inside the first five minutes for Saxon Tigers in what was a blistering start for the team.
The Pumas worked their way back into the match, and after enjoying a succinct spell of possession, deservedly got one back through Kate Barker with a nice finish on the stroke of half-time.
Saxon Tigers responded with force in the third quarter and ruthlessly plundered in the goals. Sophie Watts, Summer Knight-Thompson and Monica Watkins all found the back of the net within a dazzling four minutes of play to make it 5-1.
The team weren’t done there, Katy Furber, Jessica Tuff and Ella Panayiotou all bagging goals in the final quarter to complete an incredible 8-1 victory.
That result secures Saxon Tigers’ place in Saturday’s final whilst Pennine Pumas will contest the bronze medal match.

Nothing could separate Pennine Pumas and Wessex Leopards in their U15 Boys Pool B match as the sides played out a 1-1 draw.
In a closely contested opening half, the only goal would come from the Leopards’ Jack Burnett two minutes from half-time to finally break the deadlock.
Pennine Pumas soon got onto the scoresheet though, Harry Lewis recording the goal as parity was again restored.
Though both sides tried to take a late winner, nothing would give as the game ground to a 1-1 draw.
A draw was enough for Wessex Leopards who qualify for the final whilst Pennine Pumas will take part in the bronze medal match.

It would be another draw when Caledonian Cougars and Wessex Leopards clashed in their U15 Girls Pool B match with the scores locked at 3-3 come the full-time hooter.
Anna Warnock got the game off to an exciting start with a goal just three minutes into the match to put the Caledonian Cougars ahead.
A goal from Wessex Leopards’ captain Katerina Xenoudakis came at a pivotal time, levelling the game at the start of the second quarter to balance the match and see the teams go into half-time level.
Though Imogen Shields had restored the Cougars’ lead mid-way through the third quarter, Martha Barratt’s strike at the end of that period would restore parity.
The goals seemed to have dried up before the game exploded back into life in the dying moments of the match. Sophie Anderson looked to have given the Cougars the victory with her goal two minutes from time, only for Tilly Edwards to fire back just one minute later and end the game at 3-3.
That draw means that Caledonian Cougars will participate in the final whilst Wessex Leopards find themselves in the 5th/6th place match.

Caledonian Cougars put in an impressive display to take a 4-0 win over Celtic Jaguars.
In a well-battled opening half, the Cougars held a slender 1-0 lead going into half-time courtesy of Murray Griffiths’ effort with just over twenty minutes on the clock.
The Cougars only seemed to get stronger come the second half as Owen Hunter doubled the lead before Griffiths notched his second of the game to put the side 3-0 to the good.

A finely poised match throughout, both sides had opportunities to take the lead, only to be met by a series of super saves from the goalkeepers at either end.
The decisive goal would come late in the match, Caledonia Cougars captain Zara Kennedy leading by example with the all-important goal to see the side leapfrog Saxon Tigers in Pool A.
That result sees Caledonia Cougars advance to the bronze medal match whilst Saxon Tigers go into the 5th/6th place match.

There was drama to the end as Saxon Tigers took a thrilling 3-2 victory over Pennine Pumas to book their place in Saturday’s final.
Liam Sillis grabbed the first goal in just the third minute of the game as Saxon Tigers got off to a roaring start.
The scores would be level going into the half-time break though, James Burley stepping up and putting one on the board for Pennine Pumas to make it 1-1.
Just over five minutes after the interval the game really sparked into life. Luke Holland fired Saxon Tigers back into the lead only for the Pumas to go straight back up the other end and immediately level the scores through Will Senior.
With it all to play for heading into the final quarter, it would be the Tigers who grabbed the decisive goal of the match as Caspar Beyer struck to bag the team a 3-2 win.
