English Officials Selected For 2022 & 2023 International Hockey Tournaments

There will be plenty of English representation at international tournaments next year across all areas of the pitch following the appointment of several officials for the 2022 Women’s and 2023 Men’s World Cups as well as the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Both Hannah Harrison and Dan Barstow have been selected as umpires for both events. It will be a second Commonwealth Games for both, having previously officiated at the 2014 event in Glasgow, where Dan was on the pitch during the men’s final while Hannah was video umpire for the women’s bronze medal match.

Hannah will then make her senior World Cup debut just a few days later at the women’s event in Spain and The Netherlands, having previously officiated at the 2013 and 2016 Junior Women’s World Cups. It will be Dan’s second taste of a World Cup in India after he umpired five matches and was video umpire for another four at the 2018 Men’s World Cup in the same country. He was at the recently concluded 2021 Junior Men’s World Cup, overseeing the final, while fellow Englishman Paul Walker joined him at the tournament and took charge of eight matches.

Making their Commonwealth Games debuts as umpires next summer will be Bruce Bale, Nick Bennett and Rachel Williams, the latter having also been selected as an umpire for the Women’s Indoor World Cup in February 2022.

Steve Catton will be a Technical Official in Birmingham, a role he was appointed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, while Louise Knipe has been selected as an Umpire Manager, a position she has held at several major international tournaments across her career.

England Hockey would like to congratulate all the officials and we cannot wait to see them in action next year.
