England Hockey Club Championships 2023 Finals Review
The Bank Holiday weekend saw some enthralling action as the England Hockey Club Championships for 2023 concluded with a total of 19 titles being confirmed over three days at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Men's Over 50s Tier 1 Final - Reading O50s beat Epsom O50s 3-1
Reading O50s registered a 3-1 comeback win over Epsom O50s in the Men's Over 50s Tier 1 Final. Epsom took the lead through David Webster's field goal in the 31st minute, but Reading came back in the second half and scored a total of three goals to clinch the title. Wayne Shepherd got the equaliser through a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute, while Tim Hunt and Ian Hammond went on to score two quick goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes respectively to seal the win for Reading.
Women's Over 35s Tier 2 Final - Pendle Forest O35s beat Old Georgians O35s 6-3
In the Women's Over 35s Tier 2 Final, Pendle Forest defeated Old Georgians 6-3. Charlotte Hartley (9', 16', 49', 52') was the star of the show as she scored four field goals, while captain Karen Wignall (20') and Steph Bedford (67') contributed a goal each in Pendle Forest's big win. For Old Georgians, it was Tanya Hall (18', 57'), who netted twice and Monica Younghusband (27') also scored.
Men's Over 60s Tier 1 Final - Warwickshire & Worcestershire O60s beat Indian Gymkhana O60s 12-3
Warwickshire & Worcestershire O60s registered an emphatic 12-3 win over Indian Gymkhana O60s in the Men's Over 60s Tier 1 Final. Lloyed Brammer (39', 40', 41', 42') starred with four goals, while David Knott (29', 52', 55') bagged a hat-trick, and Ian Mcillwaine (13', 22') and Avtar Khangure (33', 65') each netted twice. Balkar Jawanda (7') also got on the scoresheet for the winning team, while Chani Bhaura (19', 62', 67') scored all three goals for Indian Gymkhana.
Women's Over 45s Tier 2 Final - Sevenoaks O45s beat Telford & Wrekin O45s  3-1
In the Women's Over 45s Tier 2 Final, Sevenoaks O45s edged past Telford & Wrekin O45s 3-1 in a thriller. It was Telford & Wrekin O45s who took the lead through Helen Miller in the 34th minute, but a brace from Laura den Daas (44', 53') and a goal from Sue Acott (52') helped Sevenoaks O45s clinch the title.
Women's Over 35s Tier 1 Final - Didsbury Northern O35s beat Olton & West Warwicks O35s 2-1
Didsbury Northern O35s earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Olton & West Warwicks O35s in the Women's Over 35s Tier 1 Final. After a goalless first half, Didsbury Northern O35s broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Nicky Kellett, but Sally Walton went on to equaliser for Olton & West Warwicks O35s in the 56th minute. It was Rhiannon Byrne-Bowles who scored the winner for Didsbury in the 63rd minute.
Women's Over 55s Tier 2 Final - Driffield O55s beat St Albans O55s 2-2 (4-3 SO)
Driffield O55s just edged out St Albans O55s 2-2 (4-3 SO) in a thrilling Women's Over 55s Tier 2 Final. Driffield took the lead through Susan Bratt in the 19th minute, but Paula Frenzel equalised for St Albans in the 29th minute and Elizabeth Cleverly's strike put St Albans 2-1 ahead in the 53rd minute. however, Sally Hunt's penalty corner conversion in the 64th minute for Driffield ended the game in a 2-2 draw. The penalty shootout too ended in a 4-4 stalemate with both teams failing to score one in the first set of 5. Finally, on the 12th penalty, it was St Albans who blinked first in sudden death as Driffield goalkeeper Debbie Nelson came up with a fine save to deny Elizabeth Cleverly.
Women's Over 55s Tier 1 Final - Kettering O55s beat Redland O55s 3-1
Kettering O55s earned a 3-1 win over Redland O55s in the Women's Over 55s Tier 1 Final. Mandy Starsmore-Young (10', 18', 32') starred with a fine hat-trick for Kettering, while captain Catherine Coombs (35+') scored the lone goal for Redland.
Women's Over 45s Tier 1 Final - St Albans O45s beat Rugby & East Warwickshire O45s 4-0
In the Women's Over 45s Tier 1 Final, St Albans O45s registered a comprehensive 4-0 win over Rugby & East Warwickshire O45s. Marie Jones (11'), Suzy Clapp (44'), Elizabeth Cleverly (46') and Jennifer Birch (61') were the goal scorers for the tangerines.

Tower Hamlets 1 beat Devonport Services 1 1-1(3-2 SO)
Tower Hamlets 1 registered a nervy 1-1(3-2 SO) win over Devonport Services 1 in the Men's Tier 4 Final. Both teams were locked at a 1-1 stalemate at the end of the regulation time, courtesy of goals from Ben Grove (11') for Devonport and Khanh Trinh (55') for Tower Hamlets. While it was goalkeeper Shuhel Ahmed who stood tall in front of the goal, Shuhel Malique, Alain Keith and Mo Momin converted their chances for the Tower Hamlets. Devonport Services could convert only two chances --Ben Grove and James Brand-- of five attempts in the shootout.
Men's Tier 3 Final - Beeston M3 beat London Edwardians 6-0
In the Men's Tier 3 Final, Beeston M3 registered a dominant 6-0 win over London Edwardians. Jack Stamp (34', 68', 39') scored a fine hat-trick, while George O'Brien (19'), Harry O'Brien (38') and Daniel Couldery (66') scored a goal each to help Beeston clinch the title.
Men's Over 50s Tier 2 Final - Kingswinford O50s beat Shrewbury O50s 5-3
Kingswinford O50s defeated Shrewsbury O50s 5-3 in the Men's Over 50s Tier 2 Final. It was a neck-and-neck first half as both teams were locked in at 2-2. Paul Campbell scored the opening goal for Shrewsbury in the 17th minute, but Harpreet Singh equalised for Kingswinford in the 21st minute. Both teams scored in the 33rd minute of the match ending the first half on level terms. While Jeff Longden scored for Kingswinford, Steve Parnham got on the scoresheet for Shrewsbury. Matt Sillence restored Shrewsbury's lead in the 55th minute, but Kingswinford responded with as many as three goals to clinch the title. Colin Morris (56'), Jamil Ahmed (60') and Amanpreet Nijjar (70') were the goal-getters for the winning side in the second half.
Men's Tier 1 Final - Old Georgians M1 beat Beeston M1 beat 5-5(2-1 SO)
The high-scoring Men's Tier 1 Final between Old Georgians M1 and Beeston M1 ended in a nervy penalty shootout. Beeston took a lead through Jamie Golden in the 28th minute, but Old Georgians quickly equalised through James Tindall in the 30th minute. George Fletcher then found the back of the net in the 33rd minute ending the first half with a slender 2-1 lead. Beeston rode on the momentum as they scored timely goals through Jamie Golden in the 37th minute and Rohan Bhuhi in the 46th minute, making the scoreline 4-1. However, Old Georgians scripted a remarkable fightback as they brought things on level terms, courtesy of goals from Henry Weir in the 51st minute, James Carson in the 57th minute and captain Dan Shingles in the 58th minute respectively. Jamie Golden, on the other hand, completed his hat-trick to restore Beeston's lead in the 59th minute. James Tindall scored his second in the 64th minute for OGs to end the game to a 5-5 stalemate.
In the shootout, Josh Pavis and Tom Carson converted their chances for the OGs, while for Beeston only Jamie Golden could convert his chance. Goalkeeper Nick Bull put a solid show in front of the goal to help the OGs do the domestic double.
Men's Over 40s Tier 2 Final - Portsmouth O40s beat Bowdon O40s 6-0
In the Men's Over 40s Tier 2 Final, Portsmouth O40s defeated Bowdon O40s 6-0. Stuart Avery (19', 44', 53', 64') was the star of the show with four goals, while Karam Bolina (15') and Paul Hilton (66') chipped in with a goal each for the winning side.
Men's Tier 2 Final - Tunbridge Wells beat Leek 4-3
In the Men's Tier 2 Final, Tunbridge Wells earned a hard-fought 4-3 win over Leek. Connor Poulain (11', 40', 57') starred with a hat-trick and Bailey Wright (68') scored a goal for Tunbridge Wells. Nathan Smith (37'), Ben White (59') and Rich Cordon (67') were the goalscorers for Leek.
Men's Over 40s Tier 1 Final - Khalsa Leamington O40s beat Sikh Union, Nottingham, 4-1
In the Men's Over 40s Tier 1 Final, Khalsa Leamington O40s defeated Sikh Union Nottingham 4-1. James Tindall (29'), captain Ricky Saund (32'), David Harris (58') and Parvinder Singh (68') scored a goal each for the winning team. Mewa Hayer (15') scored the solitary goal for Sikh Union Nottingham O40s.

Women's Tier 4 Final - Spencer 6 beat University of Nottingham 6 2-0
Spencer 6 defeated the University of Nottingham 6 2-0 in a closely fought Women's Tier 4 Final. After a goalless first half, Alice Horler broke the deadlock in the 66th minute and Martha Goodhind scored the second goal in the 70th minute for Spencer 6.
Women's Tier 3 Final - British Army Women 1 beat Reading 3 2-0
British Army Women 1 beat Reading 3 2-0 in the Women's Tier 3 Final. May Percival opened the scoring in the 5th minute, while Ella Bromley scored the second in the 25th minute to help British Army Women 1 clinch the title.
Women's Tier 1 Final - Beeston W1 beat Guildford 1 4-2
Beeston W1 registered a clinical 4-2 win over Guildford 1 in the Women's Tier 1 Final. It was Guildford who took the lead in the 25th minute through Lucy Wood, but captain Lauren Burrell led Beeston's comeback as she scored two back-to-back goals in the 30th and 45th minute respectively. Sophie Robinson then scored Beeston's third goal in the 49th minute. Juliet Farrar pulled a goal back for Guildford in the 51st minute, but that wasn't enough as Cerys Miller added Beeston's fourth goal to help her team clinch the title with a clinical win.
Women's Tier 2 Final - Repton 1 beat Old Georgians W1 2-1
In the Women's Tier 2 Final, Repton 1 beat Old Georgians W1 2-1 in what was the last match of the competition. Amelia Pollock's strike helped Repton take an early lead, but Orna Bools scored the equaliser for Old Georgians in the 44th minute. Pollock scored his second in the 66th minute to help Repton earn a hard-fought 2-1 win.
