England Going For Commonwealth Glory On Home Soil

For only the second time in history, England’s hockey teams have the chance to go for Commonwealth Games glory on home soil this summer.

The Commonwealth Games have only ever been held in England in 1934 and 2002, and with hockey not introduced until 1998, this summer’s games in Birmingham present an historic opportunity for the sport. The hockey takes place at University of Birmingham between July 29 and 8 August.

Both England’s men’s and women’s teams earned bronze medals four years ago in Australia and will be looking to build on their success at this event. England’s women have finished in the top three at every Games since hockey was introduced in '98, while the men have been in the top four on all but one occasion.

This summer’s games will also see wider home nations interest as Scotland and Wales also have their men’s and women’s teams taking part.

All fixtures and Pools will be confirmed soon.

Men’s teams:
Australia (World ranked #1), Canada (#12), England (#7), Ghana (#34), India (#4), New Zealand (#8), Pakistan (#18), Scotland (#20), South Africa (#13), Wales (#15)

Women’s teams:
Australia (#3), Canada (#13), England (#4), Ghana (#30), India (#9), Kenya (#34), New Zealand (#8), Scotland (#18), South Africa (#16), Wales (#23)
