England drawn against tournament hosts India and home nation Wales in World Cup
The four pools were drawn today for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar - Rourkela, India. The draw ceremony took place this morning in Bhubaneswar with the 3 highest seeds Australia, Belgium and Netherlands, along with hosts India already confirmed in the first position across the 4 pools.
England’s men with a world ranking of 6 are looking to break their run of 4th places in the last 3 World Cups and will face India (world rank 5) setting up a repeat of the encounter most recently at the Commonwealth Games which produced a thrilling 4-4 draw. They also face home nations rivals Wales men playing in their first World Cup, and Spain who are currently ranked 8th in the world.
The 15th edition of the tournament runs early next year from 13-29th January 2023 in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, in the state of Odisha, India.
