England Clinch Silver Medal at 2023 EuroHockey ID Championship II
England clinched Silver Medal at the 2023 EuroHockey ID Championship II after losing 1-7 to hosts Germany in the Gold Medal match held in Mönchengladbach on Tuesday.
Thomas Shaw (2') was the lone goal scorer for England in the final, whereas Captain Jan Kleinatland (14', 14', 15') who starred for Germany with a hat-trick, and Tahi Nguyen (6'), Mohamed Al Ali (10'), Simone Ohlig (21') and Jasmin Weschke (24') scored a goal each for the hosts.
England registered three wins and a loss to finish second in the opening stage of the competition. They started their campaign with a 3-0 win over Ireland, but lost to Germany 2-9 before securing wins over France (3-1) and Czech Republic (2-0).
In the Championship II as well they registered three wins and a loss in the four matches. They lost to Germany 2-5, but registered hat-trick of wins against France (5-1), Ireland (4-2) and Czech Republic (4-1) to advance to the Final of the 2023 EuroHockey ID.
They went down 1-7 in the Final to settle for Silver medal.
The team met the England Hockey President Mike Stoddard ahead of the Final.
Thomas Shaw was the leading goal scorer for England, having scored a total of 11 goals in the tournament.
Head Coach Steve Bradley said: "We are incredibly proud of all of the players who have given so much over the course of this tournament. We had played the Germans earlier in the tournament and they are a top team.
"They played with passion, pride and took the lead against the tournament winners. They come away with silver and again the team carry on improving."
