Taw Valley Hockey Club Get Funding From Clubs In Crisis
Thanks to Made By Sport, Taw Valley hockey club were successful in receiving some much needed funding from the Clubs In Crisis fund supported by the Cash4Clubs. The fund will provide over £4million worth of funding to grassroots clubs and organisations.
In this video, Made By Sport caught up with Taw Valley Hockey Club, one of hundreds of recipients of the #ClubsInCrisis grant, supported by Flutter Entertainment.
Like many, the past two years have been really tough for Taw Valley Hockey Club. The impact of COVID-19 meant they lost access to facilities and the replacement pitch was further away, meaning the membership dropped.
The decrease in membership meant Taw Valley hockey club took a hit, both financially and in club spirit. A lack of players left the club feeling empty and quiet, but, when Taw Valley returned to their home ground at Park School they grew exponentially. The membership growth brought morale back to the grounds and is attracting a range of players from the local community.
The club is thrilled with how the membership is growing and are now exploring new programmes to accommodate new players and make sure there is Hockey for Everyone.
For the first time in club history, they've managed to enter a team in Junior County Championships at both under 10s and Under 12s for both genders and are looking to enter the Under 14 Leagues next season.
As well as junior hockey the club are excited for their 40th anniversary in 2023 where the 'Vets' team will participate in the England Hockey Masters Championships.
With hockey and outdoor sports becoming more popular, Taw Valley are being innovative in their approach to attract new players. Social media is a fantastic tool that is helping them drive forward, especially with Hockey Heroes, a programme for all 5-8 year-olds.
