Pearne-Webb expresses pride after England's World Cup run

Captain Hollie Pearne-Webb spoke of her immense pride in the England team despite their World Cup defeat to Argentina.

England went out by the narrowest of margins, losing 1-0 in Terrassa and seeing their bid for an equaliser denied by two huge saves in the dying seconds.

Despite being clearly upset, Hollie spoke to the TV cameras and congratulated her opponents, as well as speaking of her feelings towards her own teammates.

She said: "Firstly, congratulations to Argentina on a great game.

"What makes it hard is that it was so close. Neither team had much in the game.

"I am so proud; the last time we played Argentina [losing 5-2 twice in February] we were miles off.

"We have come so far, it's really disappointing after such a close game but I am so proud of all the girls."

England's participation in the tournament has now finished, and it is not long before they play again in a very busy summer of hockey.

The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham takes place at the end of the month, with England women's first game on Saturday 30th July against Ghana. At the end of August the women also take part in a vital EuroHockey qualification event in Durham.
