Old Silhillians HC - Hockey Professional

Old Silhillians HC Solihull
SHARE

Full Time (approx 30 hours per week) Hockey professional position available including accommodation with all bills paid (in season), sharing a house with other sports' professional staff.  Role involves coaching at the club, in local schools and Talent Pathway environments, coaching within holiday camps, and some club development work related to player recruitment, fundraising and young leader support.

Old Silhillians Hockey Club is a growing club in the Midlands, with (currently) 6 Men's sides and 5 Women's sides on a Saturday, 17 junior teams on Sundays and a mid-week Men's Masters with aspirations to grow our women's masters offering as well, along with the further introduction of more sides on Saturdays.  The club is Talent Centre accredited and a former winner of both England Hockey and European Hockey Club of the Year.

With planning submitted for a second pitch on site at The Silhillians Sports Club, we are looking for ways to support hockey within both the local area, with several different projects offering hockey in schools, and also within the club.

This role would be ideal for someone wanting to develop their coaching, plus learn about club development, whilst not sacrificing the opportunity to play regularly or have to commit to extremely long hours in private/boarding schools.

The package for this role includes accommodation within a shared house, with no rent (or bills) to pay during the season, and very low rent for the Summer period; we would then expect this person to work as a self-employed coach, invoicing the club for their time (at an agreed rate) and with a promise of at least £15k worth of coaching and club development work within the year.  There would then also be opportunities for this person to pick up other work at The Silhillians, or elsewhere as long as it aligned with the required hours provided by Old Silhillians HC.  We would also be happy to discuss options for performance based payments relating to new player recruitment, fundraising and other projects.

We would expect the successful candidate to also play at the club (and not be charged annual subs or match fees), so a background of playing at a level of at least Area Divison 1 would be beneficial (the club's 1st teams wil be playing Midlands Division 2 next season with aspirations to finishing well within the top half ot each of their divisions).

Other desired qualities and experience would be at least two years of coaching experience leading groups; the ability to coach both adults and juniors; and some experience of having delivered hockey into state schools.

The successful candidate must also have their own car, and be up to date with their Safeguarding Training, DBS checks and First Aid, or be willing to complete these elements satisfactorily before commencing the role in September 2025 (though there would be opportunity to move into the house and work on the holiday camps from June onwards).

This role is open to either male or female applicants.
