Background

East London Hockey Club is based in the London Boroughs of Newham and Tower Hamlets and operates 9 women’s teams, 8 men’s teams and a growing youth section. 

The Women's 2nd team play in the London Division 2 North and train and play home games at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre. We are looking for an enthusiastic coach to help us build toward promotion back to Division 1. This will in turn work towards closing the gap with our Women’s 1st team (who currently play at National level) and to contribute towards our long term vision of creating a more cohesive performance teams approach within the club.

The Role

The Women’s 2nd team coach will be part of a performance team coaching group covering the women’s 1st and 2nd teams. They will be instrumental in building the long-term performance team strategy - led by the Lead Women's Performance Coach - which will commence in the 2024/25 season. They will play a lead role in the planning and execution of the strategy, with particular responsibility for Women’s 2nd team’s goals as they relate to this.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering training sessions suitable for a performance team
  • Lead the Women’s 2nd team on Saturday match days
  • Take part in weekly club and team selection discussions
  • Deliver effective team tactics on match days with adaptability
  • Work with Lead Women’s Performance Coach on development, selection, training sessions and team tactics, ensuring that open communication is upheld throughout the entire season
  • Help to maintain and develop the culture and behaviours required within the performance squad to achieve the goals set out in the performance teams’ strategy
  • Help identify leading young players across ELHC, working with other coaches and captains to manage their development towards the Women’s performance teams
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback to players
  • Support the delivery of pre-season Women’s club trials and on-going squad fitness

Experience and Approach

  • Ideally, you will have a UK Level 2 coaching Qualification, or be working towards this qualification
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK and hold a valid UK/EU passport or valid work permit and speak a good standard of English
  • Experience of coaching at a high regional level and ambition to progress to national league
  • Enthusiasm for developing existing youth and senior players and helping attract new players to improve the team
