Wrexham University Men's and Women's Hockey teams are looking for a coach to help develop and lead them throughout the BUCS season!

Job Title: Hockey Coach

Reports to: Student Opportunities Coordinator at Wrexham Students' Union (WSU)

Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Hockey Coach to lead our Men's and/or Women's teams to success. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the skills and abilities of our student athletes, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork, and creating a positive team environment. You will be brought in as an independent contractor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement game plans and strategies
  • Conduct training sessions to improve team skills
  • Lead the team to competitions and tournaments
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest sports regulations, coaching techniques and strategies

Required Qualification(s):

  • Minimum two years coaching hockey at high-school level or above (i.e., higher education or over 18s club).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of field hockey rules, strategies, and techniques
  • Familiarity with BUCS General and Sports Specific Regulations for Hockey

Desirable Qualification(s):

  • Minimum Level 2 Hockey Coaching Certificate (FIH)
  • First Aid at Work
  • Sports First Aid
  • Degree in a related field (e.g., sports management, sports/exercise science, PE, etc...)
  • Safeguarding
  • Minimum Level 1 Umpire
  • Proficiency in Welsh language

Location: 

  • Wrexham University AstroTurf pitch (LL11 2AW) for home fixtures and training.
  • Travel to away fixtures (including: Chester, Liverpool, Keele, Manchester...). Transportation via hired buses arranged and paid for by WSU.

Salary/Hours:

  • Payment in instalments (to be paid out in December and March)
  • Wage depending on contracted hours per week and experience
  • Start Date – 23 September 2024 (ideal) 
  • Team training sessions are Monday and Thursday afternoons (starting 23/9/2024). We would need a commitment of minimum one day per week (excluding half-term and Bank Holidays).
  • Fixtures take place on Wednesdays from October-March. Coach attendance at fixtures is ideal.
