How does the TA age profile work in accordance with the age profile for EAG?
We appreciate the age profile for the EAG programme, and the international game is based on calendar year whereas all other domestic hockey including TA is based on school year, can cause some headaches at times in terms of communicating with players where they stand each cycle.
Calendar year for international hockey is dictated by FIH & EHF competition whereas in England the domestic game is built around the school year which plays a prominent role across sport in the UK.
Below is a breakdown of both the TA and EAG age profiles to support future conversations with players as well as to help guide the identification and selection decisions of potential players in the future.
Player example – For the 2023-24 cycle Joe Bloggs is in Year 11 of school but born on December 30th 2007, which means for TA he is an u16 but for international events he is an u18.
Although, the age profile for TA has not changed for the 2023-24 cycle we hope the above helps TAs understand the breakdown in relation to player identification and selection for the EAG programme. Where a TA player is too old for the EAG Programme, they would be eligible to be considered for the EDP.
