What if I want cover for injuries not included within the current policy or would be wanting a greater pay out than the current England Hockey policy provides?
The policy held by England Hockey cannot cover every possible injury at an affordable rate for everyone in the game. There may well be injuries that could have short term impacts on people, specifically those that perhaps work with their hands or are reliant upon being able to walk around freely etc. that are not covered by the England Hockey policy. Whilst there is no doubt that these could cause an issue for some players, the injuries/accidents that are currently covered are believed to be those that would cause the most major or long-term issue if they were experienced by all players involved in the sport.
Therefore, if you believe you would be more significantly impacted by injuries that are not currently covered, then we would strongly recommend an individual taking our their own additional personal insurance policy. This will then provide cover for those body parts and mitigate the (financial) effects of sustaining injuries to hands, legs, arms etc. which will heal over time, but may cause that individual shorter term and more immediate problems for work / everyday life.
The Personal Accident policy that England Hockey provide is not the equivalent of a Private Medical cover, and hence we encourage all players to understand the cover, and make their own decisions about whether they would be willing to pay extra for enhanced cover over and above what the core policy provides. The policy details can be found on the England Hockey / Marsh Insurance micro-site here.
