What coach development opportunities can I access?
Our coaching philosophy and pathway has changed quite dramatically in the last few years. There are lots of different options for you to access, many of which are currently running online so easier for coaches to access.
England Hockey has recently launched a new “Planning Safe Hockey” document (available on the Safe Hockey page) which includes elements such as First Aid provision, relevant DBS checks and Safeguarding training for those delivering, procedures for managing incidents, and recommended ratios of coaches/deliverers to players.
GB Hockey has also recently launched a new digital document, which aims to bring the coaching offer and different development opportunities to life. We have also released a Coach Development Offer that outlines the different opportunities we have, alongside two videos breaking down Senior Session Roles and Under 8's & 12s Roles.
We no longer run a Level 1 but have a number of online workshops that give people the knowledge and skills to deliver fun, safe and engaging hockey sessions
- Intro to Hockey Coaching – great for those first starting out on their coaching journey, either coaching juniors or seniors (£90 - non members)
- Engaging Games For Children – recommended if you coach junior players (£48 - non members)
- Coaching For Club Players - recommended if you coach senior players (£48 - non members)
- Practice Design – focuses on both senior and juniors and how to plan and deliver fun and engaging sessions linked to the different principles of the game (£48 - non members)
Following on from this there are then workshops focused on the principles of the game – so Attacking/Defending/Goalscoring and GKs.
Finally, there is also the Sessional and Coach Courses if you would like to lead sessions independently. However, you would need to attend one of the workshops above first to ensure you meet the pre-requisites for this.
