Hockey is an established part of School Games activity in many parts of the country. Our current offer includes both inter and intra- school formats, for both primary and secondary schools, all of which can be accessed through the School Games website.
More information and resources to assist with the delivery of these formats can be found below:
-
Skill Station Format
- Built on a series of small-sided, fun, easy-to-play games suitable for all and focusing on the key skills of hockey.
- Players rotate around the different skill stations as part of an intra or inter-school festival
- Points can be awarded, and recorded on this scorecard, for performance (number of goals scored, number of passes made etc) or behaviour aligned to School Games values (honesty, teamwork etc), or they can just be played just for fun.
- Games are all inclusive and can be easily modified to meet the needs of all players, and our new Primary Scheme of Work document can help support delivery as part of the curriculum, or extra-curricular activity, in addition to the School Games festivals.
Quicksticks 4 vs 4
- The traditional Quicksticks game based on a 4v4 format is still an option for those looking for a more competitive offer.
- The small-sided game can be played on any surface, and uses a larger, lighter, and safer ball. Children find this competitive offer fun, fast and exciting the full rules are available to read for further details.
-
- In2Hockey for secondary schools is a small-sided game played 6-a-side without goalkeepers, or 7-a-side with goalkeepers.
- It helps young players develop their hockey skills and techniques and to provide a gradual progression into the 11-a-side version of the game.
Full rules and Advisory Guidelines are available to view and download.
-
- We have devised a new Young Leaders resource that supports the delivery of skill station festivals at primary schools.
- Training content is available to help young leaders feel more confident to deliver hockey and gain leadership experience through volunteering.
